Its another Tuesday in our themed sharing days campaign, and in this article we explore the four different hair types, and we cover various innovative styles that can be achieved. These styles just have the “it” factor for boldness and edginess. The types of styles possible will change based on hair type, but note that anything is really possible for anyone in the world of hair! You just have to use the right tools. Nevertheless, here we go.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so we’ve included a graphic from Healthline.com that visually explains the differences between hair types 1-4.

Image from Healthline.com article “How to Identify and Style Your Hair Type,” written by Rebecca Joy Stanborough, MFA, edited by Allison Tsai, and medically reviewed by Deborah Weatherspoon, Ph.D., MSN.

Hair Type 1:

Defined by straight without curls from root to ends, as Stanborough puts it. According to the Mane Addicts, the best hair styles for someone with 1A hair in particular are multi-layer styles, blunt bobs, asymmetrical styles, and side-parted strands.

Hair Type 2:

This category is for wavy hair. According to CurlSmith, these “waves” can be anything from loose loops to deeper “S”-shaped loops. According to Mane Addicts, showcasing the natural waviness of Type 2 hair is the goal for Type 2b hair, so what are some of the most innovative styles showcasing this hair category? How does bold and edgy look?

Daily Dose suggests off-center parts and minimal styling for 2c in particular.

Hair Type 3

In her article “What Is Type 3 Hair and How Should You Care for It? “, Jana Russick of Function of Beauty advises to avoid processing Type 3 hair with heavy chemicals or heat, depending on the specific subcategory of Type 3 that your hair is. We found hairstyles that seem to adhere to the more natural look.

Hair Type 4

Density, strinkage, z-shape, s-shape, or defined curl pattern are all descriptors used for this hair type or which there are 3 subcategories (reference Function of Beauty). How can those elements be used to styling advantage? Take a look at some ideas below.

Notice that with some of these hair styles, measures are taken to achieve balance – i.e. create volume for hair that is too straight, or re-organize the volume of hair that is too thick. We are finding this to be a common theme in beauty. However, sometimes innovation plays in the margins. So question for you: Can an innovative hairstyle break away from balance and still be aesthetically pleasing? We’re posting this same question on our IG (@hairnasticsofficial), so feel free to engage the conversation there with a simple “yes” or “no”!

This article is part of our themed advertising days campaign. Thursday is approaching, and its a good time to inform our community about a hair hack that works for you.
